The Utah Sun Bucks program is getting ready to start for the summer. Sun Bucks, also called Summer EBT, can help families buy food during the summer when schools are closed. Families get $120 per eligible school-age child.
Any Utah child in grades K-12 for the 2024-25 school year who currently receives free or reduced-price meals will automatically receive this benefit. No application is needed.

Distinguished Alum to Speak at UHS
Uintah High School has selected Laura Winward Kaloi (Class of 1985) as its 2025 Distinguished Alumna. Winward Kaloi will speak Monday, April 28, during an assembly at UHS that is set to begin at 7:40 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend but need to check-in through the main office at UHS before proceeding to the auditorium. Happy Days Opens Tuesday
The Uintah High Theatre production of Happy Days: A New Musical opens Tuesday, April 29. Arnoldās ā the famed drive-in malt shop and No. 1 hangout ā is in danger of demolition. So, the gang teams up to save it with a dance contest and a TV-worthy wrestling match. The show will run four nights only ā April 29 to May 2. Celebrations
Nine of Uintah High FFAās 11 teams placed in the Top 10 at the FFA State Career Development Events competition in Logan this week, with one UHS team claiming the top spot in Utah.
The Livestock Evaluation Team of Dalli Horrocks, Quade Lawson, Quacey Smuin, and Kassie Coombs won state and qualified for FFA Nationals. Horrocks was the 2nd High Individual and Lawson was the 3rd High Individual in the competition.
The Food Science Team of Sidney Anderson, Marlee Merrell, Abbie Olsen, and Kenna Dudley placed 2nd overall. Merrell was the 2nd High Individual in the competition and Anderson was the 3rd High Individual.
The Floriculture Team of Lillian Strasburg, Ashley Clark, Auklynd Jones, and Taryn Kidd finished 4th overall. The Forestry Team of Isabel Owens, Holden Thomas, Kenna Dudley, and Spencer Foley finished 4th overall. The Nursery Landscape Team of Sadee Slaugh, Rope Williams, Caleb Christensen, and Ella Anderson finished 4th overall. And the Poultry Evaluation Team of Weston Slaugh, Taiyelor George, Bragen Searle, and Isabel Owens finished 4th overall.
Drew Huber was the High Individual in the state in Ag Mechanics, earning a $7,500 scholarship. Huber and his teammates Taw Jackson, Genny Huber, and Cecil Watkins finished 7th overall. The Milk Quality Team of Page Liebhardt, Conner McKee, Luken Merrell, and Thomas McKeachnie also finished 7th overall.
The Veterinary Science Team of Daisy Liebhardt, Jordan Thornton, Bentley Garcia, and Oakley Garcia finished 8th overall. The Meats Evaluation Team of Aubree Harrison, Kaleb Harrison, Kray Searle, and Konner Hancock finished 11th. The Horse Evaluation Team of Terilyn Williams, Natalee Lamoreaux, Bonnie Batty, and Jayleigh Bartlett finished 29th overall.
There were more than 2,000 students and more than 50 teams competing in each event.
Six Uintah High students earned recognition during the Northeastern Utah Educational Services (NUES) Art Show awards ceremony, which was held Monday in Roosevelt.
Olivia Pena's drawing "Reflecting the Past" won 1st place in the Drawing category and was selected by the judges as Best in Show. Lily Carlson's painting "Good Ol' Chuck" won 1st place in the Paint: Oil and Acrylic category. Isabelle Cochran's drawing "Josh Dun" placed 2nd in the Drawing category.
Eric Moulton's photo "The Rosette" placed 3rd in the Photography category. Moulton's photo "Lost in Time" received an Honorable Mention. Genny Huber's photos "The Farmer's Lens" and "Eyes of Amber" each received an Honorable Mention in the Photography category. Melanie Quintero's sculpture "Spiderman" received an Honorable Mention in the Sculpture category.
Uintah High Theatreās Keith Larsen, Debbie Lamoreaux and Glenna Brennan each received Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards during a ceremony at the Eccles Theatre in Salt Lake City on April 12. Larsen won the Best Lighting Design award for his work on Hadestown: Teen Edition. Lamoreaux and Brennan won the first-ever Best Property Design award for their work on Hadestown and Roald Dahlās Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Ten Uintah High FCCLA students competed at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference held March 25-26 in Layton. Three students earned gold medals and seven earned silver medals.
Addilyn Foley and Ashley Caldwell qualified to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Convention in Orlando, Florida, in July. Ruby Glazier is an alternate for Nationals. Foley earned a silver medal in Early Childhood Education. Caldwell earned a gold medal in Fashion Construction. Ruby Glazier earned a gold medal in Fashion Construction.
Aubrie Stilson earned a gold medal in Fashion Construction. Lamona Blackhorse earned a silver medal in Fashion Construction. Sadie Wardle earned a silver medal in Fashion Design. Anna Buhler and Bethany Neilson earned a silver medal in Food Innovations. Adilyn Ruud and Brinlei Frederick earned a silver medal in Focus on Children.
Weekend Events
The Uintah High Girls Golf Team is playing against the other teams in their region today at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville. Play got underway at 8 a.m. and golfers are still on course.
The Uintah High Boys Tennis Team is hosting the 2025 Uintah Invitational today and tomorrow at the UHS Tennis Courts. The Utes beat Union High 5-0 this morning. They are scheduled to play Morgan High at noon and Logan High at 4 p.m. today. Tomorrow, the Utes are slated to play Alta High at 9 a.m. and Carbon High at noon.
The Uintah High Baseball Team will honor its seniors today as part of the final home game of the regular season. The JV game against the Morgan High Trojans is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Seniors will be honored following that game, then the varsity game will be played. The varsity game will be streamed live on the Uintah High Hudl Fan site.
Uintah High Boys Soccer is hosting Payson High today at Coach Belcher Stadium. The JV game starts at 3:30 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at about 5:30 p.m. The varsity game will be streamed live on the Uintah High Hudl Fan site.
Uintah High Softball is playing in Saratoga Springs this afternoon, taking on the Thunder at Westlake High. First pitch for the varsity game is set for 3:30 p.m., with the JV game to follow.
Uintah High Track and Field is competing in the Tiger Trials at Orem High tomorrow. Events are set to begin at 8 a.m. and will go throughout the day.
Members of the Uintah High Orchestra and the Uintah High Choir programs will be competing at Provo High tomorrow in the State Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Last but certainly not least, 15 members of the Uintah High DECA chapter and four of their advisors are in Orlando, Florida, competing at the DECA International Career Development Conference. The conference, which hosts more than 23,000 students, advisors, business professionals and DECA alumni, begins tomorrow and runs through Tuesday.
