Weekly District Update

The Uintah School Board held its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday in the board room at the district office in Naples. A live stream of both meetings can be found on the districtā€™s YouTube channel.

During the business meeting, the board celebrated the districtā€™s students of the month. The students of the month for January are Roman Rogers (Central Cove Preschool); Ulalei Tilo (Ashley Elementary School); Lolah Harr (Davis Elementary School); Isaiah Begay (Discovery Elementary School); Ariel Beston (Eagle View Elementary School); Ellie Rhoades (Lapoint Elementary School); Owen Richards (Maeser Elementary School); Eli Monson (Naples Elementary School); Ethan Cox (Uintah Middle School); Gracie Cook (Vernal Middle School); Bridger VanWagoner (Uintah High School); Taylee Tinker and Camree Tinker (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).

Congratulations to these outstanding students and thanks to everyone who supports them!

D. Troy Timothy was sworn in as the districtā€™s business administrator during Wednesday nightā€™s board meeting, too. Timothy is a 1992 graduate of Uintah High School who holds a bachelorā€™s degree in finance and international business from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Michigan State University.

For the past 25 years he has worked in finance, financial analysis, and operations at major companies such as Frito-Lay, Safelite AutoGlass, and Vans. When the school board hired Timothy in December, he was serving as the senior manager of financial planning and analysis for a multimillion-dollar specialty food manufacturing and distribution company in California.

The board expressed its deep appreciation to Kim Barnhurst, the districtā€™s chief financial officer, who served as the interim business administrator while the district conducted a search to fill the position.

School Check-in Procedures

Beginning Monday, Jan. 13, all volunteers and visitors to USD schools must bring photo ID with them. The photo ID will be scanned at a kiosk that has been installed in each school office to help staff better identify and account for volunteers and visitors while they are on campus.

This change in our procedures is part of our district's continuing efforts to keep our students and staff safe at school. We do not anticipate any delays for volunteers or visitors because of this new security screening, but it wouldn't hurt to arrive a little earlier than usual to allow time for the check-in process.

The ID requirement will be waived for those attending parent teacher conferences, school programs, concerts, games, or other performances that are open to the public.

If you have any questions about the photo ID requirement, please contact Support Services Director Mindy Merrell at mindy.merrell@uintah.net.

New Website and App

The district is excited announce its new app for mobile phones! Stay up to date with access to events, documents, news from administrators, student stories, and even emergency notifications. You can download the app for free on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
