Celebrations

The Uintah High DECA chapter attended its region competition at Brigham Young University just before the Winter Break. Brooklyn Olsen and Wilson Liesik placed 1st in Sports and Entertainment. Lillie Harding placed 1st in Business Services. Adaline Pettit placed 1st Entrepreneurship and 2nd in Human Resource Management.

Truan Christensen and Hyrum Raymond placed 1st in Sports and Entertainment. Brianna Olsen placed 1st in Business Services and 2nd in Sports & Entertainment. Prestynn Duncan placed 2nd in Quick Serve and 3rd in Hotel and Lodging. Alivia Nickell placed 3rd in Apparel and Accessories Marketing. Isaac Abrams and Bridger Christensen placed 3rd in Marketing Management. Eliza Averett, Bridger Christensen, and Wilson Liesik also earned medals for their high test scores.

Also before the break, the Uintah and Vernal middle schools wrapped up a joint food drive that collected more than 3,350 pounds of food and non-perishable items. VMS Principal Aaron Olson noted that while much of the food went to the Ashley Valley Food Pantry, hundreds of pounds also went to the Veterans Food Pantry operated by the American Legion Auxiliary in Vernal. VMS teacher and military veteran Tanya Christianson received a message thanking the schools for their donation and sharing the impact it had for at least one veteran and their family during the holidays.

Maeser Elementary students and staff also collected more than 1,900 pounds of food and non-perishables for the local food pantry in late December, while Naples Elementary students and staff collected nearly 1,700 hats and gloves that they donated to the Utah Foster Care Foundation, Utah Division of Child and Family Services and Naples Police Department to help kids stay warm.

Thanks to all the students, staff, family and community members who contributed to these service projects.
