The board celebrated the districtās students of the month during its business meeting. The district students of the month for December 2024 are: Noel Karren (Central Cove Preschool); Alahna White (Ashley Elementary); Maya Zavala (Davis Elementary); Alexa Vallejo (Discovery Elementary); Ashlinn Uresk (Eagle View Elementary); Bexlee Boren (Lapoint Elementary); Adeline Sharp (Maeser Elementary); Clara White (Naples Elementary); Chloe Touron (Uintah Middle School); Matthew Caldwell (Vernal Middle School); Aubrey Mansfield (Uintah High School); and Codalyn McMullin (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).
The board also celebrated the Uintah High School Hope Squad, which received state-level recognition in November for the clubās volunteer work with the Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk in Vernal. Hope Squad advisor Rachelle Durrant and members Brooklyn Workman, Caledonia Montague, Emma Ownsby, Brinlei Frederick, Adilyn Ruud, Alyssa Madsen, Kenzie Huber, and Kailani Wold were able to attend the meeting to be honored by the board.

Timothy hired as business administrator
During its meeting on Wednesday night, the school board also voted unanimously to hire D. Troy Timothy as the districtās new business administrator. Timothy, a 1992 graduate of Uintah High School, holds a bachelorās degree in finance and international business from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Michigan State University.
For the past 25 years Timothy has worked in finance, financial analysis, and operations at major companies such as Frito-Lay, Safelite AutoGlass, and Vans. He currently serves as the senior manager of financial planning and analysis for a multimillion-dollar specialty food manufacturing and distribution company in California. Timothy and his wife, Jill, are eager to return to Uintah County with their family after living outside Utah for the past 25 years. His first day with the district will be Jan. 6.
UHS Choir Concert
The Uintah High Choir will hold its holiday concert, āCarols of Christmas,ā on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The concert is FREE. It will include the choirs from Discovery and Maeser elementary schools as special guests. Those who cannot attend in person can watch a live stream of the concert on the Uintah High Choir Facebook page.
Winter Break ā No School
All Uintah School District schools will be closed for Winter Break from Monday, Dec. 23, to Wednesday, Jan. 1. The district office will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Classes resume and the district office re-opens on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Celebrations
Uintah High Band students Owen Carbine, Caleb Carlson, Madison Christianson, Kristina Herbert, Kyan Hiatt, Tucker Hiatt, Liz Hirschi, Olive Lyman, Nathan Pratt, Heber Taylor, Spencer Teague, Kloee Thomas, Pierson Watkins, and Aubrey Weston performed in the Utah Rural Schools Honor Band on Dec. 7. In preparation for the performance, the students spent two days working with Dr. Chris Nelson from Snow College and had an hour of sectional time with members of the 23rd Army Band. They also had the opportunity to hear the 23rd Army Band perform.
Uintah High Robotics competed in a tournament in Heber City on Dec. 7. Four out of the six UHS teams made it into the playoffs, with Joseph Head and Bridger Taylorās robot "Servo" forming an alliance with another Utes team, "Sir Toppler" by Brooke Sattley and Helen Spackman, before their two robots were outscored.
Veldon Jones and Ryder Ottley with their āGreen Machineā also won three of their six preliminary matches to enter the playoffs. Alfred Sheffer, Julie John, and Uela Sheffer made the playoffs as well with their robot, āCarl Abacus Robinson.ā These teams both chose to ally with robot teams from Wasatch before being eliminated.
Of the 36 teams at this event, just two state-qualifying trophies went to teams from Bear River and Davis high schools. The next competition for Uintah Robotics at the āVex High Stakesā game is at Utah State University in Logan on Jan 11.
Uintah High FBLA attended its region competition recently at Utah Valley University, where eight students competed in more than a dozen events. Chapter President Taylor Kurtz placed in the top five in five events, finishing in the top three in two of those events. "We are excited to continue working toward our state competition in March," FBLA advisor Nickole Hansen said.
Weekend Events
The Uintah High Boys Basketball Team hosts the Tooele High Buffaloes tonight. The games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (sophomores), 5:15 p.m. (freshmen and JV), and 7 p.m. (varsity). Tickets can be purchased in advance at gofan.co . Tickets can also be purchased at the door, where cash is accepted. The varsity game will be streamed live on the Uintah High Hudl Fan site.
The Uintah High Girls Basketball Team plays the Cyprus High Pirates tonight in Magna, and the Judge Memorial High Bulldogs tomorrow in Salt Lake City. The games against Cyprus High are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (sophomores), 5:15 p.m. (JV), and 7 p.m. (varsity). The varsity game will be streamed live on the Cyprus High Hudl Fan site. Saturdayās games at Judge Memorial are scheduled for noon (sophomores), 1:45 p.m. (JV), and 3:30 p.m. (varsity). Saturdayās varsity game will be streamed live on the Judge Memorial High Hudl Fan site.
The Boys Wrestling Team is competing today and tomorrow at the Juab Winter Classic at Juab High in Nephi. The Uintah High Girls Wrestling team is competing today the Aviatrix Invitational at Dixie High in St. George and tomorrow at the Lady Wolves Tournament at Enterprise High in Enterprise.
The Uintah High Swim Team is also on the road, competing today and tomorrow at the Mel Roberts Invitational at the Pratt Aquatic Center in Tooele.
The Uintah Uāettes are also out of town this weekend, competing tomorrow at the Thunderbird Drill Invitational at Southern Utah University in Cedar City. The Uāettes are scheduled to perform at 8:28 a.m. (Military), 9:49 a.m. (Dance), and 11:12 a.m. (Show).
