Discovery Food Drive

Discovery Elementary School donated nearly 3,800 pounds of food to the Ashley Valley Food Pantry last Friday. The schoolwide food drive was organized by Discoveryā€™s Kindness Ambassadors, who also collected the food from each classroom and stayed after school to load all of it into the trailer to be delivered. Thanks to all the Discovery Foxes and their families for supporting this amazing service project.

UHS Service Projects

In August, the Uintah School Board added Service to the list of the district's values. Students and staff at Uintah High School were busy during the first trimester living up to that value. Here's a list of just a few of the acts of service UHS students, coaches and advisors engaged in:

  •  The Hope Squad volunteered at the Out of Darkness suicide prevention walk, earning recognition from First Lady Abby Cox and Utah Jazz owner Ashley Smith for their service.

  • The baseball team placing of American flags at the Field of Flags in Vernal. They also set up and helped with the Freedom Day Golf Tournament.

  • The football team volunteered at the annual Mayor's Walk during Halloween, directing foot traffic along the walking route, ensuring that trunk-or-treaters stayed on track and had a smooth, enjoyable experience.

  • The Art Club painted and delivered pumpkins to residents of Beehive Homes.

  • The volleyball team made raffle items to raise funds for local residents facing childhood cancer.

  • The girls soccer team collected and donated socks to seniors at Beehive Homes and the Uintah Care Center. They also cleaned up trash and pulled weeds around the UHS Athletics Complex.

  • The Gaming TTRPG Club cleaned up garbage between UHS and the UBTECH and USU campuses.

  • FBLA made and donated care packages to Uintah Care Center residents.

  • The Math Club volunteered at the Ashley Valley Food Pantry.

  • The Strength Club organized a 5K and Ruck Run to raise money for Uintah Basin veterans.

  • Student Council volunteered at the Strength Club's 5K and Ruck Run. They also volunteered at Maeser Elementary's Grand Ball Celebration for all first-grade students and their families.

  • The boys wrestling team hauled and set up wrestling mats for the Uintah County Sheriffā€™s Office womenā€™s self-defense class at the Uintah Conference Center, then cleaned the mats and moved them back to the high school.

  • The girls basketball team painted fire hydrants for 9/11 Remembrance Day.

  • The boys basketball team, with the support of the girls basketball team, held a Fall Junior Utes Basketball League. The event exceeded expectations, with about 105 kids signing up. UHS players took on the roles of coaches and referees, which provided an excellent opportunity for them to engage with the younger participants and contribute to the community.

Great job, Utes! We're proud of your service to our community.
